At Driftwood and Discovery, I transform our breathtaking UNESCO Biosphere into an open-air classroom, empowering home educating families, parents, and educators to enrich learning through days out and about.
I create bright, rhyming stories with my own original illustrations, paired with easy-to-follow maps that show you how to use any location as a creative springboard for learning. Whether uncovering a forgotten piece of local history or exploring an iconic landmark, my aim is to unlock the full potential of wherever you go—making learning magical, meaningful, and full of wonder.

Hello, my name is Toni. I was born on the Island and grew up here. My childhood was spent in a world of packed sandwiches on the marshes, playing out until dusk, and pond dipping for newts. Those experiences and many more taught me invaluable lessons in creative thinking, responsibility, healthy risk-taking, and teamwork within an organic, play-based environment – instilling in me a lifelong love of learning. While the world has changed since then, the essence of childhood remains just as precious and magical today.
This passion led me to a career dedicated entirely to children. After securing my Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree in Primary Education – specialising in early years development – I have been fortunate enough to live my dream of teaching on the Island for nearly twenty years. Over that time, my work expanded into areas I never envisioned when I first started out, including senior school teaching, whole-school curriculum design, and leading residential trips.
Having taught extensively across the early, formative years, I know the profound magic of hooking a child into learning through concrete experiences – exploration, sensory play, and open-ended investigation. I believe with all my heart that this hands-on wonder should sit at the centre of how we teach all children and young people, sparking the curiosity needed to inspire a true, lifelong love of learning.

What better setting could there be for flexible, inspired exploration? The Isle of Wight, as a designated UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, is quite literally a living classroom rich with history, ecology, and natural wonder.
Just like finding a piece of driftwood on the beach and wondering about the story, science, and voyage behind it, knowledge is scattered across our shores like grains of sand, delicate shells, and rare treasures. They are simply waiting for our little people – sandy toes and all – to discover them, pick them up, and learn.
Through Driftwood and Discovery, my aim is to guide and support both children and parents, whether you are navigating the home education journey or looking to add meaningful enrichment to your child's learning. Together, we can create an inspiring, rich educational experience that honours statutory curriculum foundations while remaining beautifully tailored to your child’s natural curiosity.
