Pompeii

Script:

Two thousand years ago or so, when Rome in her prime,

The bustling town of Pompeii thrived, untroubled at the time.

Beside the cart worn  cobblestones, a giant mountain rose;

The people thought it quiet, safe, and resting in a doze.

For years the ground had shuddered, and small tremors shook the floor,

In time their quaking rooms became quite easy to ignore

They blamed the grumpy mountain gods, but carried on their day,

Not knowing that a giant beast was waking up to play!

The morning brought a cloud of ash that turned the midday black,

Then pumice stones began to rain and rattle down the track.

As night-time fell, the danger grew, and deadly heat raced down:

A super-heated wave of gas swept fast across the town!

The ash preserved them where they fell, the streets were buried deep,

And under heavy rocky dust the city went to sleep.

Until one day the spades dug down through layers in the ground,

And there the frozen Roman world, untouched by time, was found!
